MECO Information Center

I. Information Center - houses information resources on Philippine business, investments, trade, travel, education and culture. The Center aims to make the Philippines more widely known to people in Taiwan and to encourage Taiwanese nationals to visit and invest in the Philippines.

To achieve this, MECO has put up a library within its Information Center in the Taipei office where books, periodicals and electronic formatted materials are available for walk-in visitors during office hours. The Center also provides link-up services for information and other resources on the Philippines of call-in, walk-in and/or write-in visitors. In this regard, the Center works closely with other sections of MECO as well as with the government agencies and private entities operating in Taiwan. The Center can refer prospective investors, traders, tourists and students to concerned entities/agencies both in Taiwan and in the Philippines regarding specific queries.

II. Radyo Pinoy ¡V A weekly radio show aired in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung which is geared for the Filipinos in Taiwan. The program gives Philippine news bulletins, entertainment, advice, as well as a 30 minute portion with experts from the Philippines featured ¡§live¡¨ on various topics for ¡§kabuhayan¡¨ or Livelihood Training. These can be on agriculture, aquaculture and business franchising for Filipinos returning from Taiwan or their families in the Philippines.

III. Free Publications ¡V MECO publishes and makes available to Filipinos various material for education and assistance of our Filipinos in Taiwan, such as:

"Gabay para sa OFW¡¨ or Guide for Filipino Workers in Taiwan. This is done in cooperation with the Council of Labor Affairs of Taiwan. It contains in fast-fact form the laws, rules and regulations which the Filipino worker should know when arriving and living in Taiwan.

"Pang araw-araw na Mandarin para sa ating Kababayan sa Taiwan¡¨or Everyday Mandarin for our Countrymen in Taiwan. This is a language learning kit containing CDs and Pamphlet which gives the most useful words and phrases which will be useful for newcomers.

At Your Service ¡V Jointly produced together with Metrobank, this Sunday column in China Post has four topics: Everyday Mandarin, Understanding Local Laws, Taiwan Customs and Traditions and How to handle your Money.
